I write the travel guides on this site. I hold an official licence to work in Moroccan tourism, and I have planned and run more than a hundred trips. Everything in the guides comes from those trips: the roads I drive, the desert camps I put guests in, the prices I charge and the problems I have had to fix. If you want the story of how I started and how the company works, it is on our about page. This page is about the guides, and why you can trust what is in them.

What I write about

  • The desert. The drive from Fes and from Marrakech to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, the camps, the camel ride and what a night out there is really like.
  • Planning a private trip. How long things take, what to leave out, and what a trip actually costs.
  • Practical money questions. Cash, cash machines and cards, and where on the route each one stops working.

I only write about places and services I deal with myself. Where I do not have first-hand experience, I say so, or I leave it out.

How I know what I write

  • The camps. I work with partner camps at Erg Chebbi. I do not own them. Before I send anyone, we visit and look at the tents, the bathrooms, the food and the staff, and guest feedback decides whether a camp stays on our list.
  • The driving times. They come from the routes we drive, not from a map. Fes to the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes is about 470 kilometers, and we plan it as a full travel day.
  • The prices. When a guide gives a price, it is our own current starting price, and it says what it assumes.
  • The photographs. The pictures in my guides are mine or my team's, taken on our own trips, unless a caption says otherwise.

How the guides are made

Each guide starts with a long conversation. I answer detailed questions about the trips I run, an editor writes my answers up in clear English, and I read the finished guide before it goes live. Every guide shows the date it was published. When something changes, such as a fee, a price or a road, we correct the guide.

There are things I will not write about: other companies by name, and medical, legal or safety advice beyond my own experience. For those, the guides point you to official sources.

Guides I have written

And the trip I write about most: our desert tours from Fes.
